yeah. i jumped on it. mostly so i don't lose touch if any of you move over there completely. i have no plans to use the account at all. LJ is my home, and i don't like keeping track of too many accounts/blogs/emails (even twitter was a stretch for me), but add me if you like. new friends are always nice for self-esteem (mine is dangerously low lately), even if i already know you. XD

http://behindthec.dreamwidth.org/

(get it. "c." colin. behind the... me. my outer layers. into my sekrits and stuff. HA. oh god.)

oh, hey, speaking of new friends, i know i do my own "lurker open house" posts every few months or so, but since everyone is doing it now (lurker amnesty, they're calling it... hmm, i still prefer "open house"; it implies tea and cookies and sounds less... political? heh), and since i am clearly unable to resist peer pressure (*glares at dreamwidth*), COME OUT! do you lurk and never comment? there's no shame in it; we've all done it. come say hi, introduce yourself, or just randomly friend me if you're shy, i don't care. i don't bite unless you want; i welcome everyone. be anon or don't, it's all good. i love meeting new peeps. and i am super bored today (my boss is out of the office! \o/) so this'll help. help me un-bored! let's write commentdrabbles together! or. something.

and no, for the thousandth time, you don't count as a lurker if you've commented me recently and i've commented you back and there has been ~akshual interaction. :P people always show up in these posts and i'm like, "um, i totally recognize your name from comments, GTFO." XD love you though. lolz.

I used to have a book somewhere, Street French, that taught French obscenity. I don't speak the tongue at all, but the book was still pretty cool. I seem to recall there was a volume II also. Uh, I don't know if either book is in the batch that got unpacked (as opposed to the boxes in the spare room still waiting to be shelved) but if you're looking for something in particular, I can check.

Nah, I'm French so I'm pro at swearing, hahaha. But I have no clue if someone learning French would also try to learn the curses. Though I'd guess it was like any other language and the answer is yes, especially if you're a teenager, right?

Dreamwidth is (maybe) the service that will save all our asses the next time Livejournal decides to start censoring journals and deleting porny content. Dreamwidth's mission statement is to be a kinder, gentler home for creative types in exactly the way Livejournal isn't. Hence I am supporting them by buying not one but two paid accounts, and mirroring my fic over there: because we NEED them to exist, srsly and desperately.

Really. Have you considered what happens to bandom if LJ either goes under or starts censoring our legally-questionable RPF? Nearly all the fiction, primers, picspams, EVERYTHING, is right here. Livejournal holds the heart of the community in its hands. And Livejournal has proven, time and again, that they cannot be trusted with such things.

That's what I thought. I'm so laaazy though, ugh. But is sounds like a good idea. I've seen SO many posts (especially from people in HP fandoms) over LJs censoring and all that shit.

The thing is, you CAN be lazy! One click and you can import your entire lj, all the entries and comments, and even your user info and icons to DW. They've also got an auto crosspost so you can update DW and it'll post the same update to livejournal, so everyone can keep up with you whether they make the move or not. :D

DW has a very nifty "journal import" feature that will allow you to import the posts and theoretically the comments from LJ over to your journal there. The comments didn't seem to transfer for me, but the posts did, thus saving me a ton of time with the fic-mirroring.

Of course, I still had to go in and manually change all my internal links between story parts and such, but still, much less work than if I'd had to do the whole thing by hand.

Harry Potter fandom has always had issues here at LJ, mostly because of the whole troublesome "child pornography" issue, never mind that the sex in question (and the characters in question) are entirely fictional. But really, we're just as vulnerable, if not more so. All it'd take would be one C&D from someone, ANYone, and I bet LJ would be deleting accounts left and right with no notice, just as they have in the past.

There's also the matter of LJ's past employee layoffs, and some concern that they've possibly grown too big for their income to sustain, and that the whole service could just go under some day and disappear without warning. DW, it seems, is taking some care to guide their growth carefully, to avoid such a fate, and I find that encouraging.

hmm. i don't know much about legal anything, but. re: harry potter, it's fiction. we have disclaimers. it's freedom of speech/artistic expression? no?

but how is dreamwidth supporting itself without any ads? most of us are getting codes to join, not paying.

I think most of the appeal of dreamwidth is this and this. Longer post limits and shit is great, but it's their policies that got me interested. (all my fics are <1500 words, I don't need longer post limits, lmao)

Roots and stability are awesome things, but the internet is essentially ephemeral. The web that I remember from 1995 or even 2000 has been pretty much obliterated. The only real certainty you'll ever have is to get your own domain and purchase webspace and host content there - and even then you need to maintain backups, but at least there's some chance of remaining visible and findable across a span of years.

Not a lurker -- not posting as a lurker.

This is my (me being TaraAngelX on LJ) dreamwidth account. I don't even know why I have one, but I do. Like you I'm sticking to LJ as my primary journal.

I just wanted to give your confidence a leg up! =) And also I promise I will read your super long and (sure-to-be)super awesome finale to pccf as soon as finals are done on Wednesday! It's my reward for graduating!

Anywho, I like the c = colin and c= curtain thing. very bright!
