There are actually TWO stories behind Ryan's safeword. One of which I'll let Colin answer. The other is explained in a couple of pages of cut fic which will end up in the director's cut to this. :-)

I'll leave the Shane questions for Colin as well. She is so much better at explaining Shane's general win than I am. lol.
