not weird at all; this scene is totally depressing. it's brendon saying "i love you" and ryan acknowledging it and not saying it back. i assume brendon's so drugged up he forgets all this by morning. the paragraph describing this in chapter 8 was literally all he remembers. he doesn't remember what actually happened, the way he held onto ryan here and ryan didn't let him go.
