well, not according to Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, ect. i mean, yeah, some people certainly were more formal, but if you go into high society today, they're going to be much more formal than I am, that's for sure. I'm sure if you were roaming the streets of 19th century Paris, if you were where most of the poor people lived, it wasn't so formal at all.
