To butt in; me too. The reason I've done so much research on slavefic is not because I like them, it's because I nearly always don't.
There should be very little explicit violence/abuse in this. Obviously the final decision on that is up to Colin, but I'm pretty sure we're on the same wavelength.
I believe very firmly that rape should never be written in fic as a turn on, as porn as such. I think that's fundamentally wrong (with a few exceptions, for very specific reasons exploring psychology of abuse etc). This won't be that kind of slavefic. Where what Ryan suffers is mentioned, it will be for the purpose of not trivialising it; of making clear how horrible these facts of rape and slavery are, how much they change everything.
We want to look at the way a person is hurt by these experiences, and then at the possibility of healing. This fic should, in the end, be somewhat uplifting.
So absolutely if you're squicked at all don't read it (always always always always), but just so everyone's clear, this isn't one of those rape-as-porn slavefics. Like Colin said, it's not about that. It's very much character driven rather than centred around sex as such, because Ryan's a victim here. Sex is not for the most part going to be something exciting and hot. Epic character driven AU, not porny slavefic. Y/y? ;D
